Who are you, and what do you do?
I’m Katy Goodman. I’m a musician, and also a junior web developer. I went to Rutgers and studied physics and education, but then decided to pursue music instead of becoming a teacher. I’ve been playing in 2 bands for the last 8 years (Vivian Girls, La Sera), and travel the world playing shows and having fun and loving it. But when I’m not on tour, I love learning to code and developing websites. I just started working for CASH Music, where I’m training to do backend development. In my spare time, I’m going to college full time studying Computer Science, I have 2 cats and a dog who I hang out with a lot, and I go hiking sporadically.

OCDPP = Cassie Ramone, Dee Dee of Dum Dum Girls & OJ of Xray Eyeballs: live debut on Thur + date w/ Chain & the Gang
Cassie Ramone (Vivian Girls, The Babies), Dee Dee from Dum Dum Girls and OJ from XRay Eyeballs have formed a new group called OCDPP. Dee Dee plays drums, and OJ describes their sound as 80’s LA punk influenced. OCDPP will play their first show on Thursday (4/9) at Elvis Guesthouse with Flowers of Evil (members of Crocodiles, SISU, APTBS) and Dark Tunnels. Tickets are on sale and flyer for the show is below.
OCDPP will also be playing Baby’s All Right on May 15 opening for Ian Svenonius’ Chain & the Gang. Future Punx are also on that show and tickets are on sale.
Chain and the Gang, who released Minimal Rock n’ Roll last year, only have one other show on their schedule: May 22 at Columbus, OH’s Ace of Cups.
Colleen Green performed in Japan for the first time beginning on January 23 and ending on February 1 before her record, I Want to Grow Up was released by Hardly Art. Before she left Los Angeles for these dates, we sent her a disposable camera to use for her shows abroad with Cassie Ramone, who documented her final shows with Vivian Girls on the same medium. In return we received images of bowling, a mannequin wearing Colleen’s t-shirt, photos of their audience, and more.

Not That Kind Of Python: How An Indie Rock Star Became A Coder | Co.Create | creativity + culture + commerce
“La Sera frontwoman Katy Goodman is an indie rock star equally at home among musicians as she is, shall we say, among a geekier crowd. For proof, look no further than the fact that she’s gone back to college to get her computer degree, an outgrowth of her long fascination with computers and with the intellectual stimulation of programming.
Goodman has actually dabbled in coding with varying degrees of intensity over the years. The programmer side of her might not have seemed as obvious to her more casual fans, especially with Rolling Stone calling Goodman an “artist to watch” as it did a few years ago; it seemed like the stage—and recording studio—were where she was destined to call home. Nevertheless, long before fronting a group adept at big, insistent riffs and personal lyrics delivered in her dreamy, California-girl vocal style, computers were the thing she wanted to be around, a programmer the thing she wanted to be.
So much so, that Goodman found herself becoming a kind of hobbyist programmer, writing programs of her own in Visual Basic and coding her own websites for fun. She had ambitions, and she even thought about seeing where that interest might take her as she pursued higher education, but life, as it tends to do, got in the way.
Here, Goodman explains what happened next, and how she ended up throwing herself into computer coding in a big way.”

“CASH Music, a non-profit that creates free open-source tools for musicians, literally embodied their mission with an announcement on Wednesday: along with a new platform launch, the organization hired Los Angeles-based bassist, singer and songwriter Katy Goodman, who records and performs as La Sera and, on the sly, has been blogging about learning to code.
“Her skills are perfect for what we need,” says CASH co-executive director Maggie Vail, who first met Goodman during her 17-year tenure as general manager for indie stalwart Kill Rock Stars (back when she was “Kickball Katy” with punk-y Shangri-Las revivalists Vivian Girls), “and what better way to build things for musicians than to hire a musician?”
For now, Goodman will be working on an application for CASH’s venues database, accessible to artists, managers, labels, and other music industry-focused entities. “Think of it like a phonebook,” explains CASH co-founder Jesse Von Doom. “Open code is great, but it needs to be paired with open data. We don’t want artists to have to enter details for Terminal 5 or the Echo every time they’re talking about tour dates. That should just live somewhere for everyone to know. There are services that collect all that data, but their databases are closed, the info is private or exclusive, so there’s lock-in. F— that.””

“Bossy was a band Feb 2006 – June 2007.

Recorded by Mark Ospovat.
This record is dedicated to the memory of Jamie Ewing.”
“So here’s my story and ‘some’ background info for NYR003 “The Best of Bossy”. Bossy was a band in NY 2006-2007, the trio of Justin Sullivan (drums), Jamie Ewing (bass, vocals, hamonica) and Cassie Ramone (guitar, vocals).
I picked up this LP 2 years ago to get a bit of background on a couple of my favourite – Vivian Girls (Cassie) and The Babies (Cassie and Justin) – after getting hooked on JUST one Bossy song that I heard online. Turns out this ‘Best of’ is pretty damn good…well, that’s an understatement. Short and sweet, never a dull moment, sticking with simple punk approaches to songs and I’m hooked on every one. The closing track “Who Loves You Most” is perfect, it’s the only song with Jamie on lead vocals in what I think is a real heartfelt acoustic based take on the opener “Who Loves You More”.
Jamie was a great guitarist, bassist, vocalist who played in loads of punk bands including Bent Outta Shape, The Radio Faces (with Justin), and more. Similar thing for Justin, most notably with the band Ringers, and having his shot at vocals with The Insurgent. Now he plays drums with KEVIN MORBY. Cassie released a solo album last year and started up a couple of bands recently, like Melt. It’s great to be able to pick up on most of their music over the years.
The original release of this album was vinyl only in 2009 on Wild World, it comes up on Discogs every few months and you’re looking at parting with around £20 for it (since 2014). My vinyl warped so I wanted to see what could be done…after being the drunkest man alive and talking to Justin about Bossy one night, of course.
A big thanks goes to Justin for the support in making these tapes, who also directed me to Katy Goodman (Wild World) in search of the original audio files…which were found!! This saved me using vinyl rips for the tapes! We believe the original artwork files are gone now, so I spent some time photoshopping it all from photos (yes, photos) that I took of my LP artwork. ‘Interesting’ fact, the “A” is actually from The Radio Faces record that I have, since the Bossy LP didn’t label each side of the record with letters…
These are the best sounding tapes I’ve made. They’ve been hand dubbed with Dolby NR which really makes all the difference! The artwork stays true to the record, which features Jamie’s drawings.
This album should keep on existing, so here it is – original audio and on tape for you to pick up for cheap (5 times less than the vinyl!), and more importantly, indefinitely.
