The Babies Are Back! Kind of! Here’s a New (Old) Song Called “Got Old” | NOISEY
“Since the release of their awesome second album Our House on the Hill in 2012, The Babies—made up of former Woods member Kevin Morby and Vivian Girls member Cassie Ramone—kind of went on a bit of an indefinite hiatus. Sad face. During that time, Morby and Ramone have released solo projects, all of which are obviously great indie rock records. But! If you’re like me and couldn’t get enough of their work (in particular, how fucking great is “Get Lost”? Lost in youuuuuuu!), we have some good news. They’ve released outtakes from those recording sessions, and have decided to release them as a seven-inch through Woodsist. Cop it here. Below, we have the premiere of “Got Old.” These tracks were recorded in California in February 2012 and were produced by Rob Barbato and engineered and mixed by Drew Fischer.”

Six Degrees of Vivian Girls at the Amoeblog
“Remember the whole Pixies/Breeders/Belly/Throwing Muses web of bands many years back? Or, more recently, the Wolf Parade/Sunset Rubdown/Frog Eyes/Handsome Furs/Divine Fits band sprawl? And let’s not even get into Broken Social Scene. Well, none of these band associations holds a candle to Vivian Girls and the myriad bands, collaborations, side projects and what-have-yous that spring from the New York noise pop band. In light of recent release from onetime-Vivian Frankie Rose and the upcoming release by Vivian girl Ali Koehler in Upset, I’ve attempted to make a Vivian Girls tree for y’all. I’m sure I missed like 20 bands, let me know if I have!”

“Here at Weird Vibes we’re always looking for ways to create strategic partnerships and leverage our premium music programming. After our analytics team crunched some metrics, the data said it was time for MTV to team up with Youtube’s #1 music reviewer, Anthony Fantano of the Needle Drop, AKA the Internet’s Busiest Music Nerd. Sadly, Anthony declined our invitation to host MTV Hive’s Weird Vibes as he was “too busy,” but his roommate and Needle Drop contributor Cal Chuchesta was available as our last minute replacement.
Now, for the first time in history, we present MTV VJ Cal Chuchesta, the hippest, hottest, swaggiest VJ, appearing with all the stars on Weird Vibes. Witness his groundbreaking interviews with Naughty By Nature, Parquet Courts, Cassie Ramone (Vivian Girls / Babies) and XXYYXX. (…)”

DaveCromwell Writes: The Babies Interview – Catchy Lyrical Melodic Rock
“With their follow up album “Our House On The Hill” now out on Woodsist Records, Brooklyn’s The Babies exhibit the cohesiveness of a fully realized band.
Lead track “Alligator” finds Kevin Morby presenting his vocals in that conversational style first made popular years ago by Chuck Berry (think “Memphis” or “No Particular Place To Go”). The opposite of flowery (or obscure) poetry, the words come at you exactly the way people talk to each other. “There’s no plans – watcha doin’ later? Take my hand – alligator.” And “I like your hair – how do you do it?” Ultimately the frustration is revealed when it’s stated “It’s no fair that you’re taken. It’s unfair, that you’re spoken for.”
“Slow Walking” is classic boy/girl duet with lots of tongue-in-cheek “whoah oh wah” background vocals. What initially seems like an “I don’t love you anymore” song twists and morphs along with way, with Cassie saying later on that “I’m not leaving like I said I would.”
“Get Lost” churns along a buoyant four chord progression with that now instantly recognizable Cassie guitar lead sound. These instrumental notes played are melodic to the point of being lyrical – that is, as if they are another set of lyrics.”
